Content Management System A database-driven system that has a suite of tools that allows designated staff to manage, maintain and
change the content of a web site. This is how large sites are managed today. Because content is in a database, it is not
necessary to repeatedly enter the same information for multiple pages. Content can be shared among various web sites which the "owner" can then
update as necessary. That change is made automatically on all web sites using that piece of content.
For several years now, the pure-play dot coms have grasped the importance of content management. The idea behind it is
simple: If the information on your Web site is incomplete or outdated, you lose credibility and therefore, sales. Today,
much of the content management action is happening within mainstream businesses. These businesses understand that to deliver
web services that outflank those of the competition, they must integrate and synchronize databases. They want to further distribute
content management functions so that more employees can edit and/or change content on the company's web site.
